Midlife Crisis
04:51
|
|||
Sands of time keep running down, more days behind than left ahead
A life of quiet desperation ‘til the day you wake up dead
Another faceless nobody, another drone to work the hive
Another nameless extra in the edges of real life
Hey You Old man
Who do you think you’re fooling this time
Hey You Old man
This ain’t your time so step aside
No one needs you
Don’t believe you
Is this true
Is this a midlife crisis
Is it too late
Find a new way
Take your place
Having a midlife crisis
A shoebox of forgotten dreams, set aside just to survive
You know that they won’t pay the rent, you’ve gotta keep the green alive
Another day another dollar ‘nother decade has slipped by
Another cog in the machine, spit out forgotten on the line
Hey You Old man
You’re just an old ghost that forgot to fall
Hey You Old man
What makes you think you’re anything at all
No one needs you
Don’t believe you
Is this true
Is this a midlife crisis?
Is it too late
Find a new way
Take your place
Having a midlife crisis
Maybe it’s time to change the game, and take a chance to break the rules
Let it go, hit the door, at this point, gotta know there’s nothing left to lose
A lifetime pushing stone uphill to build another’s dream made real
It’s time to slip the collar take back the time I let them steal
I know that dusty shoebox should stay hidden on a shelf
But yet what you don’t understand, is that I do this for myself
Hey You Old man
Who do you think you’re talking to, boy
Hey You Old man
What you say don’t mean anything at all
I don’t need you
Never asked you
Welcome to
My midlife crisis
I can’t hear you
No way near you
I don’t care
This is my midlife crisis
I don’t need you
Never asked you
Welcome to
This is my midlife crisis
I can’t hear you
No way near you
I don’t care
This is my midlife crisis
This is my midlife crisis

Don't Want You Back
04:38
|
|||
I never thought I’d have to tell you this again
I never figured that you’d keep on creepin, time and time again
How many years ago we screamed our last goodbye
How many years ago but still you just won’t ever let it die
Hear what I say
I wish you well but god damn please just go away
Don’t want you back
Don’t want you hanging off my back
Don’t want you back
Move on just go away and get off of my back
Forever ended it’s past time to move along
Just sever all the made-up ties and lies that keep you hangin on
So tired of wondering when your next bombs gonna drop
So tired of wondering if your psycho games are ever gonna stop
What will it take
For you to stop this game and please just go away
Don’t want you back
Don’t want you hanging off my back
Don’t want you back
Move on just go away and get off of my back
Gone on too long
Time to move on
Please just be gone
Don’t want you back
Don’t need you hanging off my back
Don’t want you back
Move on just go away and get off of my back
Don’t want you back
Don’t need you hanging off my back, just go away
Don’t want you back
Don’t need you hanging off my back
Don’t want you back
Move on just go away and get off of my back
Don’t want you back
Don’t want you back

So Many Words
04:23
|
|||
Standing at the edge of time
These canyon walls, they echo every line
I toss the dice and choose the way
Another footstep closer to the grave
Twilight gives way to night like candles burned away
Your shadows fall around my heart, you lit the way
So many words I wanna say
So many words yet still I never found a way
So many words we left unsaid
Time slipped away now all the words left in the world just fade away
Waiting at the water’s edge
I feel your wings wrap tight around me once again
We’re frozen like a stone in time
Last chances gone, no matter every tear I cry
Twilight gives way to night like candles burned away
Dark shadows fall around my heart you lit the way
So many words I wanna say
So many words yet still I never found a way
So many words we left unsaid
Time slipped away now all the words left in the world just fade away
Twilight gives way to night like candles burned away
Your shadows fall around my heart you lit the way
So many words I wanna say
So many words yet still I never found a way
So many words we left unsaid
Time slipped away now all the words left in the world just fade away
So many words I wanna say
So many words yet still I never found a way
So many words we left unsaid
Time slipped away now all the words left in the world just fade away

Take a Shot
03:52
|
|||
Every day everybody takin’ every little piece of me.
Drain my soul down to the last ‘til I’ve got nothing left to bleed
Take and take and take some more.
Then turn and walk right out the door
Til the next day back they come all smiles and “can you help me please”
Another day another piece until it brings me to my knees
Take your shot
Show me what you got
C’mon take a shot
Let’s see what you got
Bending past the point of breaking, you can hear the vessel crack
Nothing left here for the taking, greedy fingers bitten back
Scream and scream and scream “no more” lying curled up shaking on the floor
What else do you want from me I have got nothing left to give
Broken, beaten, left here bleeding, not a care left if I live
Take your shot
Show me what you got
C’mon take a shot
Let’s see what you got
Take your shot
Show me what you got
C’mon take a shot
Let’s see what you got
Can’t take another day
Make them all go away
Nothing left behind my eyes
Take your best shot i see through your lies
Every day everybody tries to take a little piece of me.
Nothing left here for the taking, take a shot and you will see
Take and take and take no more
So walk away before you hit the floor
Don’t care what you want from me, nothing left for you to sleaze
Turn and walk back out that door before I put you on your knees
Take a shot
Show me what you got
C’mon take your shot
And show me what you got
C’mon and take your shot
Show me what you got
C’mon and take your shot
Show me what you got
C’mon and take your shot
Show me what you got
C’mon and take your shot
C’mon and take your shot

Rory Lawford Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
I’ve spent a lifetime gigging everywhere from dive bars to opening for arena rock legends. Yet, after over 1000 gigs, it’s
always been in cover bands playing someone else’s songs. Never my own.
So I holed up in my basement with my guitars and a mic & got to work.
Most guys in their 50s with a midlife crisis go out and buy a sports cars or have an affair. Instead, this is MY “Midlife Crisis”.
